"Extremum-Seeking Control and Its Application in Source Seeking"

Abstract
Extremum-seeking control tracks a varying maximum or minimum in a performance function such as output or cost. It attempts to determine the optimal performance of a control system as it operates. The talk will contains two part: extremum seeking control design and then application to source seeking. First part will review existing analog-optimization-based extremum-seeking control as well as the numerical-optimization-based design. The second part of the talk deals with source seeking for a single agent and then extend the work to formation control, collision and obstacle avoidance for groups of autonomous agents.
Biography
Chunlei Zhang received his bachelor's degree from the Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China, in 1999, his master's degrees in electrical engineering and applied mathematics from the University of Dayton, Ohio, in 2003 and 2005, respectively, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton in 2006. He is the engineering manager and MTS at Applied Materials in Sunnyvale. He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Control Systems Society and IEEE Robotics & Automation Society Technical Committee on Semiconductor Manufacturing Automation. His research interests include extremum seeking control and its applications, cooperative control of multiple autonomous agents, plasma control and control systems design in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. He published a monograph "Extremum Seeking Control and Applications: A Numerical Optimization-Based Approach," Springer 2012.
